Homework is further developing a child's responsibility.
They are responsible for bringing home the assignment, completing it with
parents help, and then returning it. These skills will build a foundation
for later school responsibilities.
Approximate Homework Time:
30 minutes per night= Monday-Thursday
(15 minutes=written/ 15 minutes reading)
Homework is not given for teaching new skills. It provides reinforcement of
skills that have already been learned in class. Homework helps teach responsibility, and helps develop positive learning and study habits.
If your child has worked diligently for the appropriate number of minutes and is having difficulty completing the assignment, please notify me by writing a comment on the homework or by jotting a note in their folder. A kitchen timer is a great time management strategy for the homework session. If your child is tired or unable to continue, please do not force it. He/She can finish the following day. While our goal is to instill responsibility and increase attention span, we all have our rough days!
Unless it's specified otherwise, homework is due each Friday morning. This enables you to get through your week and do the things you need to do. If your
child made mistakes on homework, point them out in a gentle way, and
use this time to re-teach or better explain the skill. If you would like me to know about a particular problem area, note it on the homework or write
a note/e-mail. If you have additional questions about homework, e-mail Ms. Welch immediately.

Homework Grades
A grade of "complete" or "not complete" will be assigned for homework.
Often, homework assignments will be counted in your child's daily classwork grade so it is important to complete and turn in all homework!
Classwork and Assignment Grades
In third grade, letter grades are given. The following grade scale will help you be aware of grades assigned. These are used on student report cards, progress skills checklists and will be used on weekly grade reports sent home to you.
A=Excellent (90-100)
B=Above Avg. (80-89)
C=Average (70-79)
F=Failing (Below 70)
Remember – grades are important, but the most important thing is to always take pride in doing your very best.
