Parent Volunteer Survey (PDF)
Volunteers Needed!
Volunteers are very important in our classroom! Many opportunities are given for parents and community members to serve children in our class. Each month a new volunteer calendar will be availble to sign up for times and "jobs" in our class. This schedule is on a first come first served basis. If you would like to arrange a regular special day each month we can discuss a schedule to accommodate those interested without disrupting our instructional time.
A volunteer form will be sent home with your child in order to know the best days, times, and jobs for you!
Computer Lab
You don't need to know a lot about computers to help in our computer lab! Just give students positive feedback, walk around and monitor student progress, maybe help spell a word or two, and enjoy the great new technology we have available! If you do know computers, that's great too! We use internet explorer and travel on the web for a lot of our activities.
Mystery Reader
Do you like to read to students? This is a time when we sit and enjoy a good book. You can even sing a song or read a poem if you want!
Class Movie Studio-Project Manager
This volunteer will work with the “big picture” aspect of our classroom movie making projects. They will make sure our project is going smoothly and we have materials, props, volunteers, and community resources to complete our movies.
Class Movie Studio-Scripts
Students work in small groups or on their own to write the lines that they will perform in their scene in the movie. During this process, students will need assistance and/or guidance to complete creative scripts. After all scenes are written, students make a list of props that they need to make or bring from home.
Class Movie Studio-Camera Operator
After practicing their lines with others in their scene, you will tape the scenes in class or during recess. This volunteer will need to have a photographer’s “eye”.
Class Movie Studio-Traveling DVD’s
After our movie scenes are captured onto the computer and edited using a software program, the final movies will need to be burned to DVD and sent home with students as traveling DVD's to share with their families and friends.
Serve as a Resource to our Curriculum
This volunteer would come in and share information/items related to our curriculum. They might work or know someone who could come in that works in a field related to our learning or have materials related to our units.
Donate needed materials to class
This is a great job for parents like Ms. Welch who can't get to their child's school because of work or other responsibilities. We will consistently need items for our class store, “Welch-Mart”.
Organize class functions
Do you like to plan parties or functions? This parent would organize, recruit and collect items for classroom functions.
Find and Select library books around a theme being studied
Collect books from the media center around our current theme. Check them out and organize them in our reading center.
Monitor students while they test-Accelerated Reader
Accelerated reader is a computer program that tests reading comprehension. There is training needed for this job and it is provided by our Media Specialist. Using a computer, you would assist children through the various questions on the screen. Upon completion, you would ensure they record their score appropriately in a folder and give a sticker for mastery (if applicable).
Serve as a room parent(s)
Serve as liasion between PTA and our classroom parents.
Class Store Managers (every other Friday)
These volunteers would monitor “shoppers” and “employees” at our class store, “Welch-Mart”. They would also assist in the purchase of items, accuracy of change, verification of bank books and the general smooth flow of the store.
Go on one or more field Trips
Do you like to be very actively involved in supervising and sharing with children? Then you might want to go on a field trip with our class (some trips have limited volunteer numbers). We usually go on about 3 per year. If you have any great trip ideas let Ms. Welch know!
Filing, Cutting, coloring, copying and organizing
Would you rather take a more laid back approach to helping in our class? We always need help making the day to day things and keeping organized in our class! This volunteer role could be filled at home or at school in our classroom.
Scholastic Book Club
Our class needs a "scholastic book order" volunteer to handle our orders for the book club. This person will help by filling out the tally and order form, totaling enclosed checks, sending it to scholastic, and handling missing items/order issues. This is a great help to me and with a volunteer, I can offer great deals on books for students, families, and our classroom library.
Please list any other ways you would like to assist our class this year as well as days and times you might be available.

There are many other areas that we will need help with but we would like to know what you can do too! If you have a special talent, job or special interest area and you would like to share it with our class, please contact Ms. Welch!
