We created a chinese dragon for our parade.
Head Supplies:
medium/large appliance box
1 styrofoam cereal bowl
2 bags of cotton balls
hot glue gun/glue sticks
Red and gold spray paint
red crepe paper
black construction paper
2 small dowel rods
4-5 tie straps

Body Supplies:
medium jingle bells (1 regular bag)
large paper clips (enough for each bell)
4-5 yards of cheap white fabric
tempra paint (all colors)

I tried to paint the appliance box with the tempra paint but found the box label showed through.
I found spray paint to cover satisfactorily.
Please supervise children during this project. It is suggested that the teacher/adult use the glue gun.
We opened one side of the box and cut the 2 side flaps off (We used this extra for the tounge and ears). We attached the top flap to the sides of the box with tie straps (electricians use these to keep wires together. I got mine at the Home Depot) to make it look like the "nose" of the dragon.

We then cut a circular pattern to the bottom flap so it would look like a tounge. We attached dowel rods to this part so the kids could turn it to make the mouth move open/closed. I attached another dowel at the top of the "head" to make it easier to carry during our parade.

We cut the styrofoam bowl in half to make the eyes and inserted black construction paper circles for the eye pupils. We added cotton balls to give it some detail and look like scales.

We used the red crepe paper in strips on the back of the box to give it a scaly look. Crepe paper also flows well when you walk so we thought it would give some "flash" to our dragon.
