As one of our activities to learn the difference between a map and a model, our class took part in making “Edible Maps”. We started with our flat paper map and discussed the meaning of all the symbols. We looked at the map key to figure out the items on our maps and then what foods we could use to symbolize them on our model.
We then spread the dough on waxed paper and made a model of our map using items like: -Hershey kisses for the mountains -“Andies” candies for the school -Caramels for the houses -M & M's for the bushes -Twizzlers for the railroad tracks -Blue icing for the river and lake
When Ms. Welch and the parent volunteers checked to see if our model matched our map, we ate it!! Of course we couldn't eat all of it but we made cool models!
